About Horseshoe Empire
Horseshoe Empire” is a play that takes place in the Horseshoe slum of Jersey City, NJ in 1928 and “No Irish Need Apply”. Teddy Devlin, hungry to escape his low status, aligns himself with Mayor Frank "I'm the Law" Hague. The story asks, “Could our personal comfort keep us from asking questions?”, "When one immigrant group rises, must another fall behind?", and “Have we changed much in the last 100 years?”.
This play was successfully presented at Museum of Jersey City History in 2023. At that time we had full houses with lots of positive feedback, a great review in the Jersey Journal https://jcitytimes.com/review-horseshoe-empire-and-the-irrepressible-ghost-of-frank-hague/ , the J. Owen Grundy History Award, and PBS' interview with Steve Adubato for his "Remember Them" series: https://steveadubato.org/remembering-some-of-nj-s-most-corrupt-politicians.html
Unfortunately, with only 8 sold-out performances, we had to turn people away. That is why we'd like to remount our production and bring this popular subject back for more people to enjoy.
